Chapter 9
1 And Elisha the prophet called to one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, "Gird your loins, take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead." 2 When you arrive there, see Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi there. Go and raise him up from among his brothers, and bring him to an inner chamber. 3 And you shall take the jar of oil and pour it on his head and say, "Thus says the LORD: I have anointed you king over Israel." And you shall open the door and flee and not wait. 4 And the young man, the prophet's young man, went to Ramoth-gilead. 5 When he arrived, the army commanders were sitting there. He said, "I have a word for you, commander." Jehu asked, "For which one of us all?" He said, "For you, commander." 6 He got up and went into the house, poured the oil on his head, and said to him, "The LORD God of Israel says: I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, over Israel." 7 And you shall strike the house of Ahab your lord, and I shall avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the servants of the LORD from the hand of Jezebel. 8 And I will destroy all the house of Ahab, and I will cut off from Ahab the one pissing against a wall and the detained and the abandoned in Israel. 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah. 10 And the dogs will eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there will be no burial. He opened the door and fled. 11 And Jehu went out to the servants of his lord and said to them, "Peace? Why did this madman come to you?" And they said to him, "You yourselves know the man and his speech." 12 And they said, "You're lying! Tell us now." And he said, "This is what he said to me: 'This is what the LORD says: I have anointed you king over Israel.'" 13 And they hurried, and each man took his garment and put it under him on the step of the ascent, and blew the ram's horn and said, "King Jehu."
